Deadbolt lock for storm door4/15/2024 ![]() Could work better if it's brick because it's usually let in. I'd it's a single door, it you put your moulding proud of your siding. If you wanted to, you could remove the brick molding ( or mullion if that's where your hanging the door) and add some 3/4 pvc behind it to gain yourself some room, but that is also less than ideal. Moving the deadbolt works, but the plugs are ugly In my opinion, the easiest thing may be to walk around the hardware store and find a combination of hardware that will work. There are also a multitude of options as far as the storm door handleset. I know they may be more expensive, but there are keypads with pretty slim footprints. Im sure you have a 4 9/16 jamb which should leave you somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 3/4 inches between your doors. There are "Jamb extension products" and a few ways to "build it out" but the easiest thing to do is find a storm door handleset that will fit. This is one of the issues I run into regularly.īeing in a custom door shop, I have the ability to alter the jamb from the very beginning to accommodate, which isn't really possible in your case. I build and install doors for a living, and homeowners want a wide range of different hardware. Has anyone else here run into this, and have any advice on remedying this? I'm worried I wouldn't be able to properly shim it out and hang it properly. However I'm not really sure what that entails and don't have experience in any kind of wood/trim work (yet). I found some other comments online about this (mostly people returning the lock as they already have a storm door), and a couple seem to say to "build out the storm door". This would be easy to do with the cons being the aesthetics and it being higher than typical for entering the code. My first inclination is to relocate the deadbolt - drill out a new deadbolt hole a couple inches higher and use a deadbolt hole cover like this over the existing one. However the problem is the deadbolt sticks out seriously far as you can see from the picture, and after checking the Anderson installation requirements and guide I am 99% sure it will interfere with the storm door handle. I'm now looking to install a storm door, preferably an Anderson 3000 example here. I just bought a house and the first thing I did was install a Schlage keypad deadbolt ( Deadbolt) which I absolutely love.
